Springfield Little League (SLL) is committed to resolving conflicts fairly, objectively, and in a timely manner, always prioritizing the well-being of our players. This policy outlines the process for submitting and reviewing grievances to ensure open communication between parents, coaches, volunteers, and the Board.
1. Code of Conduct & Non-Retaliation
All coaches, managers and volunteers must handle issues impartially. Retaliation, such as changes in playing time, position, batting order, or overall treatment, is strictly prohibited. Any allegations of retaliation will be thoroughly investigated and may result in disciplinary action, including suspension.
2. Grounds for Grievances
A grievance may be filed for violations of SLL rules or bylaws. Common issues include:
● Disputes related to league policies or rule enforcement
● Concerns regarding coaching decisions that violate league rules
● Issues with player treatment in violation of non-retaliation policies
3. Submitting a Grievance
Grievances must be submitted within seven (7) days of the incident using the official Google Form.
The form must include:
● Name, phone number, and email of the person filing
● Name of the individual the grievance is against
● Description of the issue, including relevant dates and locations
● Desired resolution
4. Review Process
● The President, Secretary and Division Commissioner(s) will review the grievance within 7 days of receipt to determine if it has merit.
     ○ If the grievance is valid, a Grievance Committee hearing will be scheduled.
     ○ If dismissed, the filer will receive written notification with the reason for dismissal.
● If a hearing is necessary, the Grievance Committee (President, Secretary, Division Commissioner(s)) will convene.
     ○ Both parties may provide witness statements 24 hours before the hearing.
     ○ Testimonies will be limited to relevant facts.
     ○ The Committee will deliberate privately and notify involved parties of their decision in writing.
5. Right to Appeal
● If a grievance is dismissed or disciplinary action is imposed, the affected party may appeal within 48 hours by submitting a request via email to the League President. Appeals will be reviewed at the next Board meeting, with a final decision issued within seven (7) days of the Board meeting.
